Chinese Paper Cutting Paper cutting is one the most popular Chinese folkart. Archaeological finds trace the tradition back to the 6th century, although the tradition probably began a few centuries earlier. It is believed that paper cuttings were at first used for religious purposes but later developed into an art used mainly for home decoration after hundreds of years' of development. Although other art forms, like painting, can also show similar scenes, paper cutting still stands out for its charm - exacting lines and ingenious patterns which are all hand-made. [+]
